Do you find it difficult to keep up to date with your pet’s healthcare needs? With yearly vaccinations required and an overwhelming selection of parasitic products to choose from, it is easy for owners to fall behind on their pet’s preventative treatments.
Our Pet Healthcare Plan can make preventative healthcare easy for all dog and cat owners. We can provide you with all the treatments you need each year to keep your beloved pet fully covered, so they never miss a booster vaccination or worming treatment again.
What is preventative healthcare?
To keep our dogs and cats healthy, they require routine treatments throughout their life to protect them against several severe diseases. These treatments include a combination of vaccinations and parasitic treatments that will help keep your pet fully protected.
Vaccinations
To ensure our dogs and cats are continually protected against some of the most serious diseases, they will need a booster vaccination every year. These boosters will follow on from their initial primary puppy or kitten course to ensure that they remain protected every year for the rest of their lives.
Dog vaccines include protection against:
- Distemper
- Leptospirosis
- Hepatitis
- Parvovirus
- Parainfluenza
- Infectious Respiratory Disease (Kennel Cough)
Cat vaccinations include protection against:
- Calicivirus
- Herpes Virus type 1
- Panleukopenia Virus
- Feline Leukaemia Virus
Some vaccines will need to be given every year, while others may only need to be given every 3 years, so the booster’s contents vary each time. For more information, speak to one of our veterinary team about a suitable vaccine schedule for your pet to ensure they are continually protected.
Parasitic treatment
Several parasites can infect our dogs and cats. Often they will cause unpleasant irritation and can sometimes result in severe illness. The easiest way to protect your pet is to regularly apply appropriate parasitic treatments to help stop parasites from infecting your pet.
Parasites we routinely protect against:
- Fleas
- Mites – Including Ear Mites, Sarcoptic Mange, and Demodicosis
- Lice – Dogs only
- Ticks
- Intestinal Worms – Including Roundworms and Tapeworm
- Lungworm
- Heartworm
There are a variety of parasitic treatments available for dogs and cats to use, each licenced to protect against specific parasites. To ensure that your pet is fully protected, speak to one of our veterinary team for more advice about a suitable parasitic treatment regime for your pet.
Why is preventative healthcare important?
Preventative healthcare will not only benefit your pet but can also help keep you and your family healthy too.
It protects your pet against several serious diseases
Preventative healthcare helps to protect your pet against several serious life-threatening diseases. These diseases are usually highly infectious, so can be easily transmitted when vulnerable pets mix with other infected dogs or cats. For some diseases, contact with the environment alone is enough to infect a susceptible pet. You can reduce the risk of your pet becoming ill by keeping them fully protected.
It allows your pet to safely mix with other dogs or cats
If you keep your pet up to date with their preventative healthcare then it helps to keep your pet safe when they mix with other dogs or cats. As well as protecting your own pet, you can also help to reduce the spread of disease to other vulnerable pets.
Keeping up to date with preventative healthcare is particularly important for pets who use boarding facilities or dogs that use daycare or dog walking services, as disease can spread quickly in this type of environment. All reputable boarding and daycare centres will also request evidence of up to date vaccinations before accepting your pet.
It protects you and your family
Some diseases that we protect our pets against are also zoonotic. This means that infection can pass from your pet to you or your family. While this type of disease is usually rare, if it happens then it can cause serious illness.
Examples of some zoonotic diseases that we can protect our dogs and cats against:
- Leptospirosis
- Tick transmitted disease – For example, Lyme Disease
- Tapeworm and Roundworm infection
- Sarcoptic Mange and Demodicosis
- Bartonella (Cat Scratch Disease)
Preventative healthcare is particularly important if your pet has contact with children or any immunocompromised individuals, as they will be more likely to develop severe symptoms if they develop disease. If you are concerned about zoonotic disease then talk to our veterinary team for more advice.
